What is the smallest 12-V battery that could be used, for example to verify auto parts work at a salvage yard?
Q. . . . rechargeable or non-rechargeable, assuming that only a minimal amount of current would be needed to test the parts (relays, solenoids, sensors, etc.).

Will Toyota Camry parts from another country work in my Camry even it has a different part number?
Q. My camry ECU is busted and we don't have salvage yards for used cars here in my country. It's going to take forever to order from the local dealer and expensive too. I saw some on eBay (US) with the same exact year model as my car but the last digits of the part number is different? so i was wondering if this would work, coz i understand the part numbers are supposedly different in every country but they are the same part. Running out of options to get the car running again. Help!

A. As long as the plugs, and pin outs are the same, it should work. Computers are tailored to due to many factors, but I have sent computers from here (Japan) to Germany, and the US with no problems. Remember.. count the pins, and make sure the plugs are the same.

I already use Goodmark, Paddock, Summitt, Sherman Industries, Harmon's, LMC, Classic Chevy, Hubbards, Eckler's, PAW, and of course eBay but if you have any other well-kept secrets I'd surely appreciate it. A. I would personally put some more effort into finding the source of the trouble before changing the ECM.Those units are really tough and don't break very often. But, if you get a used one,get it from a vehicle the same year and engine. It probably won't need to be reset. Look here for a used one:

Why are they destroying the engines of the clunkers by having them seized with silica gel?
Q. in the past we salvaged parts and engines are the heart of a vehicle. Salvage yards are part of our economy, besides also we used to send our cars and trucks to mexico and points south, other poorer countries included. China burns coal, and pollutes as do others, but we must take a step backward and destroy what was built to ease man's labor and burden and not to waste or to harm life on the planet. Too bad is certainly not a good enough answer, that is exactly the attitude of the administration; Too bad ,we will do it because we know what's better and do not care what you have to say about anything.

A. During the Depression, FDR had millions of healthy pigs slaughtered in the belief that this would help farmers by raising pork prices. There were similar programs for wheat and other commodities. Democrats don't understand that you don't increase a Nation's wealth by destroying assets.

What underhood fuse block to nab from salvage jard? Custom Install!?
Q. Since I am installing fuses, and breakers, and relays...to run my new electric coolant fan, relays for my headlights, etc, etc. I wanted to clean up all the wiring, and centralize all of it in one fuse block under the hood of my 1985 Caprice. I am keeping the under dash one, just wanting to install an additional used fuse box. I am planning to go to my local self-service parts yard, and am wondering which one to get. Prefer: Water and heat resistant, (shouldn't be a problem) Use the common fuse ATO preferred. Inexpensive, easy to find relays. Not to small, or large. no longer than a foot or so. Common, model of car/truck preferred. The cars at this particular yard, are 10-25 years old, so thats what I have to choose from. Thanks in… [cont.]

A. Neon at a salvage yard "6 Bosch type relays and has sockets for about 8 ATO style fuses from 10 amp to 40 amp. The box has a hinged snap-down lid that looks splash resistant and it seems like it could be a nice thing to have if you want to add ATO type fuses and a bunch of relays to your car. Playing at a salvage yard near you!" Rome is evil!

WHERE CAN I BUY ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE BODY PANELS AND PARTS?
Q. I am looking for auto body parts: i have a nascar open wheeled modified stock car. when it was first built back in 1984 they used an oldsmobile firenza 2 door coupe body or skin. on open wheeled modifieds they only use the body panels from the fire wall back, and only the outer skin. so i need the roof, right and left door skins, r and l quarter panels, trunk lid ect... does anyone know where i can buy these body parts? DON'T say a salvage yard, i just need the skins, there is way too much work in separating the out skin and making it fit right. for example; if i buy an entire door, i would have to cut the out skin off. BACK IN 1984 you could by just the skins. from the mid 1960'S up until the late 70'S my father built nascar modified… [cont.]

How do you try to buy or bid on totaled vehicles by car insurance companies?
Q. I m interested in trying to find a vehicle like mine, but wrecked with a good engine and transmission and any other parts I can salvage to keep mine alive for a few more years . I would like to know in general how to search and bid on wrecked vehicles that have been totaled by insurance companies and are now up for bid. This would be kind of like what a wrecking yard must do to purchase vehicles for parts resale, or a used car dealer that would in turn repair the vehicle and resell with salvage title. Any leads on where to start would be appreciated
Asked by racetricks - Thu Apr 12 15:40:25 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ask your insurance agent. He should be able to tell you what they do with the totaled cars. A lot of the time they have salvage yards take them or auction them off at a local auction. Good luck and hope you find one.

Q. I had a collision recently with my '93 Chevy Caprice. I need either a new or used in excelent shape right rear quarter panel and a used door (bare with no hardware) both parts from a '93-'96 will work and can NOT be from a police package car and yes I have tried the local salvage yards and dealerships. these items are discontinued from GM.

A. jc whitney or some other type of place like that. I dont know how to find them all but there are many places that buy that kind of stuff up when the dealer discontinues it. also... ask your insurance company... they are the champs of fixing cars cheap. its what they do for money. any local claims adjuster can probably turn you on to a good source of quality low cost body parts.
