Where do I find a boat\marine salvage or junk yard in VA or NC ?
Q. We have a 1985 Bayliner that we need some parts to and would like to find them in a salvage yard. And yes, I did try an internet search.

A. I know this is a radical suggestion, but has it ever occurred to you to use your Internet search feature to search for 'Marine Salvage?' You might be surprised at what you can find.

Advice on a Project Boat?
Q. I picked up this 17 foot early 60 s fiberglass boat from a local salvage yard as a project boat! After looking at it since I got it home I am wondering if I got myself in too much of a project! 1st off as seen in the photo s yard 1-3 the boat spent 6 years with the trailer tongue in the dirt. Bow facing down allowing all the water to collect and freeze inside the bow! In photo F1 all-around that area is frozen solid (You can tell by knocking on the hull). Also photo s F1 F2 and F4 are flaws on the outside of the hull. What are those anything? Big problems? The spot in photo F1 appears to be soft to the touch soft fiber glass again hard to tell from the frozen water in there! And on the inside of the boat photo F3 there is a… [cont.]

A. You've definitely got your hands full.If you do all the work your self and aren't in a big hurry I'd say it is worth fixing.You need to talk with someone that is experienced in working with fiberglass repair.A local body shop or marina perhaps.As far as the transom, from the pictures it looks solid.You can have someone help by raising up and down on the lower unit of the motor while you look to see if there is any movement in the transom.

How do i get a salvage title?
Q. filed bankruptsy 3 years ago included in the bankruptsy was my boat. the boat was never retrieved and has sat in my yard for 3+ years I am thinking of trying to get a salvage title to sell the boat or at least regester it for use I am completely ignorant on these type of things . could someone make a suggestion??

A. This is really a question you should be asking your lawyer about. It is possible that the finance company wrote off the loan during your bankruptcy. Did you ever assign the title to them? Picking up the boat may have just been overlooked, but with it sitting on your property for 3 years, you may have a claim for storage now. Laws are different in every state. You should check with a lawyer to protect yourself. If you get a duplicate title and you have already assigned the title to the bank in bankruptcy, you could be looking at fraud/ theft charges. Protect yourself and do it the legal way!!
