How strongly is sugar intake linked to the onset of diabetes, among people who are not overweight?
Q. and is there a figure for daily intake of sugar, above which there is a significantly higher chance of diabetes? like, does it jump? or is your intake of sugar steadily correlated with the likelihood of you getting diabetes?
Asked by Eat Bananas - Thu May 7 10:49:29 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no food that causes diabetes. Consumption of sugar will not cause diabetes or any other condition. It may be interesting for you to know that it's not just sugar that affects people with diabetes - it is any carbohydrate at all including bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, corn etc All carbs convert into a type of sugar when digested. So long story short - there is no link between sugar consumption and diabetes. For more information look up the American Diabetes Association web site

My filter intake tube only reaches about half way down in my 60 gallon tank should I get an extender?
Q. I have a Aquaclear 110/500 Power Filter. The tank is about 24 inches deep from top to bottom, so the intake tube is probably only reaching down about 12-14 inches. Is it more beneficial to have the tube reach closer to the bottom?
Asked by Nathan G - Thu Mar 27 12:06:57 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You could attach a water pump with a bubble wand, to create flow at the bottom. OR Install a undergravel water system, plastic grids, with 2 tubes on each top left and right corner, needs 2 water pumps and aeriates under the substrate. ("'\(o.o)/"')

What are the air intake slots under the windshield and near the windshield wipers for in a car?
Q. Sometimes when we drive past the country side the smell of the farm animals gets inside the car, and i started to wonder how the smell got in the car in the first place. Is that the job of those slots (ive been told theyre air intake slots) under the windshield? To directly take in the outside air and smells and bring them inside the car?
Asked by ProfessorChaos - Mon Apr 13 03:06:47 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes those little slots are air intake for you climate control. You should have a position on newer cars that recirculates the air inside the car if the outside air gets objectionable. Care should be taken to be sure that no buildup of vegetation - like leaves or grass- builds up inside the area because as it gets old and wet it will have a tendency to become aromatic and need to be cleaned out. On older cars the covers on top of the vents were removable for maintenance.

A. just so you know an air intake kit isn't going to add much HP, any HP gain it says is at a cold run, after about 5 minutes its going to get hot in the engine compartment from the exhaust headers and only end up gaining about 3-5 HP at the most, all it does is add more air to the engine which the ECU will adjust and add a little more fuel for the mixture, so a little bit more air and fuel isn't going to add a lot of HP, some kits will give you a lot less restrictions than the stock intake system though, but all an air intake kit really does is give you better acceleration and throttle response, so its actually not about HP gain, its actually about better air flow through the high performance filter and air flow to the throttle body since… [cont.]

How low a calorie intake as a male can you have before it get dangerous?

Asked by Martin k - Tue Jan 20 21:12:12 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well this really depends on your current weight and height and then you need to filter into it what you do in a day. For example, if you are very active, your body would need more calories to keep it moving and not eat at the muscles. If you do not eat enough then your body shuts down, its not dangerouse at first, but is pretty stupid as your body then starts to eat away at the muscles- this is because the muscles in your body require the greatest amount of energy to keep themselves going- its like a cash flow problem- your body is simply trying to economise when its shut down, and muscles are costing it too much, so it uses them for fuel. What it also does, is anything you do eat, is then being stored as fat and not being burnt as… [cont.]

What can i do to fix the intake manifold?
Q. I have a 2000 crown vic, it has a stock plastic manifold. It has a small hairline crack just below to heater hose line that goes into the top of the intake ,that is leaking coolant down and down into the combustion chamber where the spark plug is &causing misses. What glue or epoxy can i use to repair . Can i use the JB weld epoxy? Please be specific. I know this is a temporary fix but i cant afford to pay 300 for a new intake. The crack will probably get bigger over time right?
Asked by 61Keys - Sun Jun 29 18:54:05 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well I think you are in luck. If you are the original owner of this, you may be able to get it repaired under warranty. And let me explain why. Ford is well aware of premature intake manifold failures on the 4.6 liter and has offered a new design on them. Mention recall number 05N04 which mentions extended coverage for the intake manifold. This recall ended in late 2006 but I know some people who made enough noise and got their manifold covered under warranty. Don't be confrontational about it. Be courteous about it and they may meet you in the middle by offering to pick up the part if you pay the labor.

How much does it cost to replace an Intake Manifold for a 96 Ford Thunderbird, 8 cylinder?
Q. My best friend's car has been overheating, and there was a leak from one of the intake hoses so we replaced that thinking that would do the trick, however, it continued to overheat. So she took it to a shop and had a cooling system test ran on it to see what's causing the overheating. A crack in the intake Manifold. She was told it would be preety expensive to replace. Would this problem also cause issues with your sensor? Because her airbag light keeps flashing too.

A. it going to cost around 360 dollars to replace the manifold,,but that don't have anything to do with the air bag light on it,,,its a totally separate thing,,it probably has a bad sensor for the air bag that's causing it to flash,,and there fairly cheap to replace,,i own a repair shop,,and this is some of the kind of work we do,the intake will be the most expensive part of this job to do,,good luck with it,,i hope this info helps.

My car has an intake problem and to fix it costs $1000. What is the intake and what does it do?
Q. My Grand Am has been displaying "add coolant" once a month since December. I've taken it to the dealer each time; they couldn't find a leak. They even put dye in the coolant and looked the engine over with a black light. Yesterday, they had me leave the car overnight and called this am to tell me the "intake" is causing the problem. I was told it will take from Friday through Monday or Tuesday to fix and the cost will be $1015. I have no idea what an intake is or what it does. If I don't get it fixed will the car stop running or will I just have to keep adding antifreeze every month? Is the cost reasonable?

A. hi, the intake is what allows air to enter into the engine, more then likely the problem is the intake gaskets, unless its a 3.8, the the intake should be replaced to, this is a common problem on gm's and 1k is fair price.

A. By as much as you like, depending on what exercise you do and how long you are willing to take. The slower the better. The slower you lose weight, the healthier you are. Rule of thumb: Do NOT eat below 1200 calories.Preferably not below 1400-1500, but NEVER below 1200 (some people say you can go as low as 1000, but I really do not advise this)-- (But you can eat, say, 1800 and then burn off 500.. as long a you ate enough, it is okay for you to burn it off again through the day - just don't tire yourself out!) There are 3500 calories to a pound. To lose a pound, you must shed 3500 calories. So, say to maintain your weight, you had to eat 2000 calories per day. If you then ate only 1500 per day, you would take (not including exercise) a… [cont.]

How can i lower my intake of carbs but without cutting it out completley?
Q. I've noticed i eat alot of carbs and i want to lower my intake. Any suggestions for meals and ways around eating carbs at social settings? Thank you
Asked by Unknown - Mon May 4 17:14:54 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would suggest trying to substituting the carbs with something that is lower in carbs or is a protein. Carrots (while they still have carbs) has a lot fewer carbs than a potato or pasta. Loading up on fruits and veggies, or simply going to a meat or chicken alternative would work. Also, drink a lot of water before you eat.

How well would a ram intake + electric supercharger + performance chip work on my 02 dodge neon?
Q. I want to know if it will increase my performance noticeably. I already have a cat-back exhaust, my next mod will be a ram intake along with a performance chip and I want to know if buying an electric supercharger is worth it.

A. Performance chip just usually dump more fuel on an NA application. Would go with cold air intake. I believe ice man made the best one (most gains) at the time for the vehicle, but mine was a first gen. Used to own one but that was like ten years ago. Do not buy the electric supercharger, that is a joke. Check out modern performance.com

Do transmission types matter when buying a short ram intake?
Q. I am planning to buy an Injen Short Ram Intake for my 06 Acura RSX Base(auto), and i was wondering if transmission types affect if the intake will work for it or damage it. Please help me out i'll give you best answer if it sounds good. Thanks in advance.
Asked by dragonboy7761 - Wed Jan 16 22:13:19 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The intake doesn't matter for the transmission. It is still the same engine as the auto or manual transmission. The only way it would make a difference is if your looking for a longer intake runner or a shorter one for higher RPM's. That would only matter in a race situation, and many other things would play into that as well. SO in short, NO transmission doesn't matter when selecting a air intake.

How dangerous is a high-caffeine intake mixed with slight Anorexia?
Q. I drink an average of 3 cups of coffee a day as well as more tea than I can remember. How dangerous is that level of intake when mixed with a borderline anorexic lifestyle?
Asked by Amber the Tattoo Girl - Sat Apr 4 14:52:09 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi, It is not immediately life threatening, but it certainly won't do you any good. Being borderline anorexic means that your immune system is probably not as strong as it can be. Coffee and tea contain tannin which becomes tannic acid when you ingest it, this is not good for your intestinal lining. When you eat well and drink, small amount of tea and coffee (1-2 cups per day), it is usually not too much of an issue. However when you start drinking a lot in addition to a potentially compromised immune system, this means you're in danger of developing gastric disorders and there is a decent chance that you will have atrophic gastritis within a few years, which is a precursor to all sorts of conditions including bowel cancer.

How would horses get their salt intake living in the wild?
Q. It is stressed in so many feeding books and articles that all horses need a supply of salt in their diet. They say that they cannot get this salt from grazing.. So if it is so important that they get the right amount of salt intake, how would they get it in the wild?

A. In the wild they would not be limited to the area they can roam and would be able to acces natural mineral deposits the same as deer, elk, moose and other wildlife. There is also a big difference in quality of life between wild horses and domestic horses.

Q. I have a 98' mitsubishi montero sport and i don't know how to find an air intake system that will fit it. Is there a way to find one to fit my car? They don't have any on ebay. I've seen a shield under the filter, is that usually included because i don't want any water in my engine.
Asked by Andy D - Wed Aug 20 22:34:15 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yeah, make it. Just takes time, measuring, cutting, and a bit of elbow grease. Just because you can shield under the filter doesn't mean water can't get there. Obviously a shield helps but if you go through a big puddle water is going to go everywhere including wherever your CAI is located. The best thing you can do is not drive it fast enough to sling water everywhere when it's wet outside or not get a CAI at all.
