What happens when a man is shot at close range with a 9mm?
Q. I want to know what happens when a man is shot in the head from very close range, say, a few centimeters with a 9mm gun. Q1)Does the bullet come out the other side? Q2)What kind of blood spatter occurs? Q3) If the bullet is not found, can forensics identify the type of gun from the injury alone? Remember this is a shot to the head at close range.

A. 1. At close range a 9mm full metal jacket could go through someone's head and out the other side. Hollow points would cause more damage and the bullet would remain lodged inside of their brain. It is possible for someone to survive a gunshot to the head though, especially 9mm. 2. There wouldn't be that much blood splatter unless the bullet actually exited the head. There would more likely just be blood oozing out. You might see some brain fragments if you used a hollow point. 3. Yes. Forensics can easily tell whether or not the man was shot close up or not and be able to determine what bullet was used.
