Is it worth it to hire an auctioneer?
Q. I have a couple thousand $ of vintage japanese kimonos/obis, as well as several antiques and collectibles. I can't have a garage sale (I live in an apartment), and ebay is so flooded with kimonos...they sell for a fraction of what they are worth. Is it worth it to deal with an auction house? What have your experiences been? Thank you.

A. If you want to get "what they are worth" then you need to get your items appraised by someone with a background in the type of items you have. Until you do that it's only your opinion as to what they are worth and that may not align with the current market value, which may differ by region of the country/world. Using an auction company that is familiar with the type of items you have will definitely improve your chances of getting what their market value is. The auction company should target an audience that is more likely to buy the types of things you want to sell better than a random buyer coming onto your garage sale. What determines the worth of a baseball card?
Q. I collect cards and am pricing my collection. I'm noticing that some cards that I thought wouldn't be worth anything are more expensive than some of the big names. What determines how much a card is worth? Does anybody know? I'd like to get serious into my hobby. Thanks!

A. Best guide on market is Beckett price guides. Worth is determined by how well known, how well liked, achievements condition and scarcity of card. The library has books and there are tons of info on line. Find a reputable dealer in your area and let them know you want to learn and be a serious collector. If you are underage get a parent to get into it with you. Be leary of a too good to be true deal..do your research..fakes are out there on various cards..in all aspects of collecting From Sports cards to the Non ~ Sports cards.

Is it worth coveriong your sport bike in your insurance or is it best to just cover liability?
Q. Covering your own bike literally triples the yearly rate, as in, your paying more for insurance than the actual bike. Is it really worth covering or should i just suffer my losses. Thanks to all and any veteran riders out their for opinion.

A. If it is an older bike, 5 or more years, I would only cover liability. If it is a new bike, like the one I have now, I put full coverage on it because those plastic coverings are expensive. You might want to shop around for insurance because full coverage only adds about $200 a year for my 1100 cc bike (note: my insurance company, State Farm, goes by the size of the motor only, not the type of bike).
